"For
where envying and strife is, there is confusion and
every evil work." (James 3:16)
A thought came to me as I read this verse. If we are
praying like we ought to, if we are putting other
first, if we are exalting God, if we are putting
truth the foremost in our minds and thinking on the
betterment of others, it would put envying and
strife in the back seat. If envying is not there and
if strife is not there, it will stop confusion and
every evil work from coming to the surface. Elder
M.R. Altom has said that there is a little jealousy
in everyone and in every minister, but if you keep
it in a bottle and keep the lid tight it will never
come to surface. I think all of us could deal with
less confusion in our lives.
The greatest commandment is to love God with all you
heart, all your mind and all your soul, the second
is liken unto it, Love thy neighbor as thyself, on
these two hang the law and the prophets. This is the
key to true happiness, to peace with your neighbor,
and to a close walk with the Lord.
"And he said unto them, O fools, and slow of
heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and
to enter into his glory?” (Luke
24:25-26)
The word (ought) in my text carries the thought of
under obligation. For the redemption of his people
Christ was obligated, was under covenant agreement
with the Father. As Christ being God manifested in
the flesh, he was perfect and without sin and he
agreed to pay the price. We are speaking about a God
that can not lie. The whole of our salvation
depended upon these words, "Ought not Christ to
have suffered these things"?
