He That Hath an Ear |

As we read through the 2nd and 3rd chapter of Revelation we
find recorded seven different times; He that hath an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches:
This was written to each of the seven churches that were
in Asia. In each of those seven churches, the Lord had a
special message to be delivered unto them.
In chapter one we read Blessed is he that readeth, and
they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those
things, which are written therein. This is telling us
that if you have read, if you have heard and have kept those
things, which are written, it is because you are in a
blessed state. That is, you have been blessed to read, you
have been blessed to hear and you have been blessed to keep
those things that you have read and understood.
He that hath an ear let him hear what the spirit saith
unto the churches. How many of us have been blessed to
read, hear and understand and yet we did not keep those
things that we have heard and understood? In Isaiah 55:1 we
read Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters,
and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come,
buy wine and milk without money and without price. Here
is an invitation to those that are thirsty, an invitation to
come to the waters. Then in verse 3, Incline your ear,
and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live. This
is to those that are thirsty, to those that are hungry, to
those that have hearing ears to hear. That is, you have been
placed in a position to come. Oh! What a blessed state to be
in. You have been brought near to the Lord of Lords and King
of Kings. You can have that peace and fellowship with God
like you never had before.
I have been asked, since Primitive Baptists believe that
eternal deliverance is not based upon what man believes,
does, or accepts, why do we preach? First, because I feel
that the Lord has called me to this work, and I have a great
desire to preach those things that will edify the church of
Jesus Christ, that will give all the glory to God, that will
comfort Gods people concerning what was accomplished through
the blood of Jesus Christ, and that through Christ, we can
have that peace and fellowship with God that passeth all
understanding.
In verse 7, Let the wicked forsake his way, and the
unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the
Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for
he will abundantly pardon. Now notice back in the first
verse: Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the
waters. This is dealing with a child of grace, one that
has been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ, one that
already has life, and that life is secure in Christ, one
that is in a blessed condition, one that is hungry and
thirsty. Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the
waters. There is a watering place for the children of
God, a place that we can come to and find rest for our
souls. Do you realize what a blessing we have in Christ
through repentance, through the acknowledging of our sins
and turning from our wicked ways?
Now back to Revelation. He that hath an ear, let him hear
what the spirit saith unto the churches. As the minister
brings forth a message from God's word to a people that is
blessed of God, a people that has ears to hear. The spirit
takes that message and applies it to the hearts and souls of
God's people that make up the church of Jesus Christ. The
message may be of redemption through the blood of Christ, it
may be of the resurrection of the dead; it may be concerning
our duties and responsibilities to one another in the
church. It may be on repentance of sin in our lives, or
things that we are not doing that we ought to be doing.
Regardless of the message, it is the spirit that reveals
this to you. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear what
the spirit saith to the churches.
Let us therefore take heed to the word of God and let us be
found faithful in our duties toward the church. It is my
prayer that I might be found faithful, that I might be found
preaching not only what Christ hath done for us, but also
what we ought to be doing for one another. That through the
preaching and the hearing of the gospel we might be brought
to a full understanding of Christ and his Kingdom and that
through this understanding we might be brought to a closer
walk with him, that we might have that sweet fellowship and
communion with him and with the people of God. He that hath
an ear, let him hear what the spirit saith unto the
churches. |
