I Corinthians 15:45,47,
"And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living
soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." "The
first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the
Lord from heaven."
This morning, many do not like the representation that they
have. Every few years, people that are elected to office are
replaced with others as the representative has not
represented his precinct to their satisfaction. Sometimes,
the representation is radically different than promised
during the campaigning. However, the representation that the
Holy Scriptures teach is out of man's hands today. There are
no elections to determine how we are represented in the
sight of the Almighty as that has already taken place. In
one case, our representation failed in the worst way, and in
another case, our representation succeeded beyond what any
of us can possibly fathom!
In these two verses, Paul is talking about the two and ONLY
two people that have ever represented a child of God. In the
case of the non-elect, only one person ever represented
them. It is important to look at the words that are used to
describe Adam and Christ. Adam is called the first man or
the first Adam. This means that there was no man before him.
The words that describe Christ are the last Adam and the
second man. Therefore, looking at the descriptive words of
Christ, we see that NOBODY could have represented us between
Adam and Christ. To do so, they would have to have been the
1.5 man or some other ridiculous fraction.
Also, since Christ is the last Adam, there is nobody coming
after to do any more representing. The reason this is so
vitally important is that this doctrine of representation is
complete in these two persons. There was no lower place that
man could be afterAdam's fall. When he transgressed God's
holy law, he brought all of His posterity as far down into
the miry pit as could be. This fall was lower than our minds
can fathom as there is no limit to man's depravity.
The second (and last)
representation was complete for those that Christ loved.
There was not an object of His love (from eternity past)
that He did not redeem to God. Everyone for whom Christ
loved is everyone for whom Christ died. Everyone for whom
Christ died is everyone that came out of the grave with Him,
and some sweet day, all those beloved children will bewith
Him in glory. Now, to the person that cries, "Unfair,
unfair" to being represented in Adam (since they had no
causative action in it), why does no one cry, "Unfair,
unfair" to the suffering of the Perfect and Just One? Had I
been in the garden, I would imagine that I would fall as
Adam did. However, I know that no matter how many chances
given would I have ever been able to do what Christ did.
Also, to be represented in Adam, one must be a relation.
Since we are all naturally related to Adam, we all fell.
Likewise, to be represented in Christ, one must be a
relation. So, Christ died for His brethren, and man has not
the right to say anything against the Perfect One that saved
us from something that we cannot fully comprehend to a state
that we cannot fully understand here below. Therefore,
knowing these things, what manner of persons ought we to be
looking for and hastening unto the coming of our Glorious
Saviour and Redeemer?
