"And there was great joy in
that city." (Acts 8:8)
As Philip preached Christ to
those at Samaria they heard, they understood and they took
heed to what was being said. It seems that in the context
before us this morning that there was not only joy in what
they heard and what they saw, but also in taking heed to it.
Sometimes we rejoice in what we hear because, as the Spirit
of God takes the message of grace and applies it to our
hearts, there is rejoicing because our spirit is bearing
testimony to the truth, yet it seems that so much of the
time we go home and forget what we heard because we do not
wish to take heed to the overall message. Yet, when we hear,
we see, and we understand and we take heed to that we have
heard, then that joy goes beyond the moment that we heard
it. It becomes a personal reminder for days to come. I
realize this morning that there are deeper meanings in what
I said about this text, yet this truth stands out in my mind
this morning. Have we taken heed to what we have heard and
seen?
