A Place to Pray

Elder John (Pat) Young

When we think of prayer, and how the things we have upon our hearts and minds, have sometimes become such a pressing burden, and we seem not so much ready to complain of our lot, but to find a place where we can, but for awhile put them in the hands of the only Great Physician, who can settle the wind, calm the troubled waters and give peace for awhile; to lift up our burdens for a while, and let us feel the quietness of holy peace.

The greatest confidence we can ever know as children of our Great God and Saviour, is that no matter how great our trials become or how we are burdened with the cares of this life, ”We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (see 1 John 2:1), who is able to intercede as the propitiation for our pleas and bear them before the God of Heaven, lifting them up to His hearing and forgiving ear.

Even if our infirmities be too great a burden for us to carry, and our sins seem to be more that we are able to bear, we have not been left without a place, a place where there is One, who comes before the throne of mercy for us, Who is Mighty to save: “For we have not an High Priest, which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities: but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Heb. 4:15,16

We have a mighty High Priest who is able to know and touch the weakest soul, and heal the most broken of hearts, or cure the greatest ill.

So let us indeed come boldly to that place where we can pour out the troubles of our souls, hearts and minds, knowing that He only has the touch of a gentle, and loving hand, to guide us unto the Throne of mercy, and forgiving grace.

There is no better place to pray!
