In the gospel of Matthew, chapter 6:21 Christ says; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. I wonder sometimes if we know where our real treasure is. Is our treasure laid up for things on the earth, or have we laid up treasures in heaven?

This is telling us that if our treasure is on earthly things, then our hearts that is our minds, our thoughts, or the feelings of our mind is going to be on earthly things also. Yet on the other hand, if our treasures is upon heavenly things, then our minds, that is our thoughts, or the feelings of our minds is going to be upon heavenly things. I want to purpose a question at this time. Where is your treasure? Is your treasure, which is that which you place much value in; is it in everything except Christ and his Church? Do we love the things of the world more than we love the things of Christ?

There is a lot of things in this world that we enjoy as we live in this life, such as our home, transportation, our families, our friends, vacations, such as hunting, fishing, boating, plus all kinds of entertainments. All of these things that we enjoy is not all bad, if we have our priorities in order.

In Matthew chapter 5:13 Christ says; ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. As we look at the word salt from a natural standpoint, we know that it is that which preserves, it is that which adds flavour, that which makes our food taste better that we might have a desire for it. Christ said; ye are the salt of the earth.

This is talking about a child of grace that the Lord has placed his love upon. This is also dealing with the ones that the Lord has revealed his truth to. Moreover it deals with one that is in the Church of the Living God, that is the Church of Jesus Christ. He says; ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savour. Oh! What a sad condition to be in, to lose his savour. It does not say its savour, but HIS savour. This is talking about the savour of Jesus Christ. It is talking about the sweetness of Christ and his gospel; it is talking about the surety of the promises of God.

It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Christ is telling us that he has preserved you, he has kept you, he has revealed his truth to you, and he has comforted you with his truth. He has a purpose for you by making you the salt of the earth. In verse 14 he says; ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, which is in heaven. If our treasures are in Christ and in his Church, we are to set an example, and let our light shine before men that God may have the glory and the honour.

There is nothing in this world that should come before Christ and his Church. Sometimes we think that making a living is more important than being at church on Sunday. We get caught up in the ways of the world and think; well I have company that has come in this weekend. It won’t hurt for me to miss today; it is just one Sunday out of many. I have a family reunion coming up and I will only miss two Sunday’s this year for that occasion. I am on vacation, I deserve my time off, I will only miss a couple of Sundays this year for that. Then you begin to add up all the Sundays that you missed church that year, you might be surprised just how many Sundays that is. Jesus said; where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

In chapter 6:23 Christ said; Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. If we could just put the Kingdom of God first, that is Christ and his Church, the Lord will bless us with all the things that we stand in need of from a natural standpoint. The Lord will bless us with jobs to provide food and clothing for our families, and us and at the same time you will be giving glory to God, by letting your light so shine among men. They will see your good works, and be able to see your happiness in Christ the Lord. It will encourage those outside the church that they might want to come and see what great things the Lord is doing for you. When we lay up treasures on the earth, it is just for a season, but when we lay up treasures in heaven it is from everlasting, it is forever, it will never have an end, because this comes from him that is eternal.
